FAQ
What is GeoPollster?
GeoPollster empowers citizens by providing location-based campaign contribution alerts. When a GeoPollster user checks-in to a venue using Foursquare, GeoPollster sends them an alert telling them how much money the venue's company has given to political campaigns.
GeoPollster also provides real-time location-based political polling.
Where does GeoPollster's campaign finance data come from?
Our campaign finance data comes from the nonpartisan, nonprofit
OpenSecrets.org
. Click
here
to donate to them.
What are partisan points?
GeoPollster users receive partisan points when they check-in to venues that give campaign contributions. They receive Democratic points at venues that give mostly to Democrats, and Republican points at venues that give mostly to Republicans. Partisan points help users understand how their spending habits subsidise politicians. When logged in, users can see how their partisan points compare with their friends. Also, our
GeoPollster Standings
page shows the top partisan points earners from around the around.
How do partisan points work?
A GeoPollster user receives one Democratic partisan point if they check-in to a venue that gives most of their campaign contribution money to Democrats. If the venue gives more than two-thirds of their campaign contributions to Democrats, the user receives two Democratic partisan points. Similarly, a GeoPollster user receives one Republican partisan point if they check-in to a venue that gives mostly to Republicans. If the venue gives more than two-thirds to Republicans, the user receives two Republican partisan points.
How do I sign up?

here
. Once you have a Foursquare account, you can
sign up
for GeoPollster.
Where can I user GeoPollster?
GeoPollster can be used anywhere in the world where Foursquare is used.
What is location-based polling?
When a user signs up for GeoPollster, they select which political party they currently support. Then each time they check-in to a Foursquare venue, GeoPollster counts their check-in as a "vote" for that party. Votes are tallied to determine polling data for the venue, venue category, city, state, and country.
Why should I use location-based polling?
Traditional polling organizations conduct polls by calling people who have landline telephones. This means that existing polling data is gathered from people who own landlines and are too polite to hang up on cold callers. GeoPollster changes this by conducting polls through the location-based service
Foursquare
. GeoPollster users can change their party affiliation at any time, allowing GeoPollster to keep track of real-time voter sentiment.
Do others know what party I'm voting for?
No. That information is private. All of our polling data is used anonymously.
Where can I use location-based polling?
GeoPollster's location-based polling can be used in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
How do I delete my account?
Login and go to Settings. On the top right section of the page click Delete Account and follow the instructions.
